“Solarizing” Seafood

Project Rationale

A “solarize” campaign is a concentrated effort to encourage and support members of a particular community, including small businesses and homeowners, to install solar photovoltaic energy systems, sometimes by pursuing a bulk discount from an installer. Distributed solar energy is a fishery friendly decarbonization solution with many economic co-benefits, such as cost savings for home and business owners, creation of jobs in the local community, local ownership of the energy system, and energy resilience. Fishery Friendly Climate Action’s “solarize seafood” campaign mobilizes fishermen and shoreside businesses to consider solar for their homes and commercial spaces. We maintain partnerships with organizations who can help these entities navigate the process of going solar, and we promote solar and seafood together through a “Eat Seafood Go Solar” co-marketing campaign.

The “Eat Seafood Go Solar” publicity and marketing campaign is a growing movement of fishermen, seafood businesses, and seafood lovers who are embracing rooftop solar as a fishery friendly energy alternative. It celebrates the linkage between sustainable seafood and fishery friendly solar energy through media and promotional resources, including online testimonials from fishermen who have “gone solar”, bumper stickers, and social media.
