Meet up with your fellow fishermen at Climate Week NYC!
This is an informal, self-organized opportunity to get some fresh air and hang out with your fellow fishermen. All fishermen, friends, and allies are welcome! BYO Breakfast: Bryant Park has a few on-site coffee carts and bakeries and there are others in the surrounding neighborhood. Grab your favorite brew and meet us at the Fountain Terrace on 6th Avenue (across from the intersection with 41st Street and the 42 St-Bryant Park subway station. If it’s rainy, we’ll figure out a Plan B! Contact Sarah Schumann if you get lost or it rains: (401)297-6273.
Attend "Fueling the Future of Fisheries," an informal discussion about the high fuel prices that are plaguing our industry (for the second time in five years) and what we can do about it . This will be a solutions-oriented discussion centered around the possibility for supportive government policies that the fishing industry can organize around. We'll be looking at the Farm Bill, the USDA Rural Energy for America Program, the Diesel Emissions Reduction Act, and more. This event is for all Massachusetts fishermen.

Fishermen and their representatives have been working through the Fishery Friendly Climate Action Campaign in partnership with the Responsible Offshore Development Alliance (RODA) and three regional coastal/ocean acidification networks to define core principles of “fishery sensitive” marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR). In this webinar, project partners described a set of 17 fishing industry roundtables on this topic in 2025, and then shared RODA’s new “Guidance for Fishery-Sensitive mCDR” memo series, which was developed based on fishermen’s input.
This webinar, intended for a commercial fishing audience, presented the basics on marine carbon dioxide removal (mCDR) to get novices up to speed on this emerging set of ocean-based climate solutions. We revealed results from the first phase of a fishermen-led project to define “fishery sensitive” mCDR and outlined how fishermen can track this issue as it develops.
This was a “book club”-style discussion group focused on the first sixth volume of the Policy Pathways to a Low Carbon Fishing Fleet series and the second two volumes in the Enabling Conditions to a Low Carbon Fishing Fleet series. This was a required event for individuals participating in the Low Carbon Fleet Fellowship. Other members of the fishing industry were welcome to attend.

This will be a “book club”-style discussion group focused on the first three volumes of the Technology Pathways to a Low Carbon Fishing Fleet series. This is a required event for individuals participating in the Low Carbon Fleet Fellowship and the Steering Committee advising National Fisherman on a 20-article series on topics related to fishing vessel energy efficiency and next-gen power sources.

Members of the fishing industry, media, government, academic, nonprofit, and technology communities are invited to attend this webinar and ask questions about the “Transition to a Low Carbon Fishing Fleet” research and two opportunities for fishermen to turn this research into action in 2025.

Hear from two commercial fishermen who are blazing a trail into high-impact climate science and negotiation spaces: Linda Behnken, who recently served a co-author of the Alaska Chapter of the National Climate Assessment, and Hannah Heimbuch, who recently attended the U.N. Conference of the Parties on climate change in Dubai.
Are fishermen and farmers in the same boat when it comes to climate change? Are there clear opportunities to support one another? We explore where these intersect.
Climate change affects people of every political stripe, but for too long, partisan politics have gotten in the way of solving the problem. We will be joined by Bob Inglis, a former Republican Congressman from South Carolina and the current executive director of republicEn.org, an organization that encourages, emboldens, and advocates for a free-enterprise solution to climate change. Inglis leads republicEn's growing grassroots community of #EcoRight conservatives, a balance to the Environmental Left, who believe in the power of free enterprise and innovation to solve climate change. This online discussion will be of interest to conservative-leaning fishermen AND to non-conservative fishermen who seek to understand the diverse values that motivate different parts of the political spectrum.
This webinar will foster an inter-regional dialogue among fishermen in Alaska and the Lower-48 around climate change and climate solutions. We will learn how fishermen and their organizations are mobilizing around these urgent issues and discuss how we can best support each other across regions through complementary messaging frameworks and network building.
This "Solar 101" webinar is designed especially for members of the commercial fishing and seafood industry. Participants will receive tips and testimonials from fishermen who have already installed solar on their rooftops, and hear from representatives of Energy Sage, an organization that provides customized advice and an online marketplace for installation quotes.
